Den komplexa bild där flera regioner varit leverantörer av metall till Skandinavien har nu delvis kunnat revideras och nyanseras. Under äldre bronsålder, fram till och med 1600 f.v.t , visar resultaten dock en komplex bild där flera olika kopparleverantörer framträder. Dessutom finns det skillnader mellan olika delar av Skandinavien med koppar från brittiska öarna men också från det karpatiska området och gruvor i Österrike. Men, en markant förändring sker dock kring 1500 f.v.t (period II) då importen allt mer domineras av koppar från italienska alperna; ett område där brytning och smältning av koppar växer fram.

Detta har vi försökt att modifiera, delvis genom ny teoribildning om hur samhället varit organiserat i Skandinavien och som pekar mot att samhällena aktivt investerade i långväga handel genom att bygga och bemanna båtar.
För att förbättra möjligheterna att hitta källorna, eller motsvarande signaturer i samtida föremål, har projektet aktivt inlett samarbeten med internationella forskargrupper. Nya referensdata har blivit tillgängliga i och med dessa och i de fall som viktiga områden saknat data har kompletteringar gjorts inom projektet. Det senare omfattar såväl typologiskt och kronologiskt relevanta föremål (t.ex. från Spanien, Tyskland, Ungern, Irland) som råämnen och kopparmalmer. De nya resultaten kring proveniens har medfört att vi för vissa perioder delvis fått revidera tolkningarna kring kontaktvägar och metallnätverk som tidigare föreslagits. Nya resultat som pekar mot att Skandinavien kan ha fått koppar från italienska alperna öppnar för nya frågor kring kopplingen till centrala Europa under bronsåldern. Exempelvis blir de bärnstensvägar, som redan Oscar Montelius framhöll som troliga, återigen intressanta att analysera; inte minst med tanke på att bärnsten från Östersjön förekommer i bronsålderskontexter på flera ställen i de italienska alperna. Forskagruppen i Mannheim, vid Curt-Engelhorn-Zentrum Archäometrie, som leds av Prof. Ernst Pernicka. Med denna grupp har vi diskuterat analysresultat, referensdata och framtida samarbeten vad gäller att spåra tennets ursprung med analyser av tennisotoper – något som nu är under utveckling, bl.a. i denna forskargrupp.

Signaturerna visar dock att dessa kan vara troliga ursprungsområden för ett mindre antal föremål.
The ALBIMEH project som består av Dr. Xose-Lois Armada (UCL, University College London), Prof. Marcos Martinón-Torres (UCL), Prof. Ignacio Montero Ruiz (Institute of History – CSIC, Madrid). I samverkan med detta projekt har analyser av sex spanska föremål och råämnen ingått.
Det mest omfattande samarbetet som projektet har iscensatt är med en forskargrupp som leds av Prof. Gilberto Artioli vid Dipartimento di Geoscienze, Università di Padova i Italien. Prof. Artioli har gjort nya referensdata tillgängliga för vårt projekt och varit delaktig i tolkningsarbetet av skandinaviska data. Detta samarbete har resulterat i den tydliga kopplingen till malmkällori i italienska alperna.

Med utgångspunkt i huvudsyftet valdes några, i Skandinavien, vanligt förekommande föremålskategorier ut för analys. Provtagning gjordes i samarbete med museer i Sverige, Norge och Danmark. De inledande analysresultaten blev vägledande för de efterföljande urvalen och påverkade vilka områden med råvaror som framträdde som mest relevanta och hur insatser med kompletterande analyser av referensmaterial prioriterades. Det senare genererade också flera internationella kontakter som visade sig vara väsentliga för projektets utveckling. Resultaten från blyisotop- och spårämnesanalyser av totalt 230 prover (varav 168 från Skandinavien) har kontinuerligt tolkats, utvärderats och jämförts med referensdata och i relation till arkeologiska frågeställningar kring typologi, kulturella kontakter, kopparnätverk samt social organisation och kännedom om när olika gruvområden var i drift.
Kontakterna med det atlantiska Europa har fortsatt utretts; den iberiska kopplingen som tidigare anförts för de tidigare faserna förefaller nu inte lika stark. Det är främst under yngre bronsålder som en del av materialet kan relateras till den iberiska halvön; frågor vi arbetar vidare med tillsammans med internationella forskarteam.
Resultaten har också kunnat lyfta frågor kring skillnader och likheter mellan olika delar av Skandinavien vad gäller kopparimportens vägar. Koppar från de brittiska öarna har t.ex. levererats till Danmark ca 1600-1500 f.v.t, men inte till Sverige. Dessutom uppträder koppar från italienska alperna tidigare i de svenska och norska föremålen än i de danska. Dessa skillnader inom Skandinavien genererar ytterligare frågor kring utbyten, interaktion och rörlighet.
Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Krause vid Institut für Archäologische Wissenschaften, Vor- und Frühgeschichte i Frankfurt (Main) som har provtagit och samarbetat kring tyska svärd från Münchenområdet.Resultaten har också lyfts fram i en populärvetenskaplig artikel i Populär Arkeologi 2018 och i SVT-serien som sändes i början på 2019; De första Svenskarna, del 2.
Andra frågeställningar som har tillkommit berör den andra viktiga råvaran – tennet. Nya frågeställningar som projektet därför formulerat är på vilket sätt tennet och dess ursprungsområden kan påverka tolkningar av kontaktvägar och nätverk.
En följdeffekt av projektets resultat är att det starkt har bidragit till att få igång debatten om kopparens ursprung i Skandinavien och för detta tillämpbara metoder. Flera internationella forskare har inspirerats av våra resultat och sjösatt nya projekt.Prof. Dr. Vicze Magdolna vid Matrica Múzeum és Régészeti Park, Százhalombatta och Dr. Gábor Tarbay vid Nationalmuseet i Budapest. Samarbetet har omfattat analyser av bronsföremål från olika arkeologiska kontexter på orten Százhalombatta i Ungern. Resultaten visar stora skillnader mellan dessa och motsvarande skandinaviska föremål.

The Associates are one of Scotland’s most loved post-punk bands of the 1980’s, with albums such as The Affectionate Punch, Sulk and Perhaps. Billy MacKenzie and Alan Rankine have a special place in our hearts giving us ’Party Fears Two’ and ’Country Club’ to name a few… In this episode we celebrate The Associates legacy with a mix of live performances, fans and friends tributes, Alan’s insight into the songs and a timely reminder of the remarkable human being that we lost in Billy MacKenzie. The Iconic Jesse Rae is Scotland’s pioneer of Funk music. Having worked with some major artists across the world within the industry of funk including Bernie Worrell, Nairobi Sailcat and Michael Hampton from Parliament / Funkadelic. Jesse also worked closely with the American producer Roger Troutman founder of the band ZAPP who helped spearhead the funk movement and heavily influenced West Coast Hip-Hop. Part 2 of the interview kicks off right where we left Jesse in Part 1, in 1985 with the release of his Scottish P-Funk album ”The Thistle”. A wonderful insight into Scotlands Funk Ambassador with some very interesting stories on Jesse’s award winning videos and friends.
